Significance of Bernoulli Integral Terms for the Solar Wind Protons at 1 au

چکیده
The Bernoulli integral describes the energy conservation of a fluid along specific streamlines. is sum individual terms that contain plasma density, speed, temperature, and magnetic field. Typical solar wind analyses use fluctuations as criterion to identify different streamlines from single spacecraft observations. However, accurate calculation requires accurately determining polytropic index analysis density temperature To avoid this complexity, we can simplify calculations by keeping only dominant integral. Here, analyze proton field observations obtained Wind at 1 au, during 1995. We calculate quantify their significance comparing them with each other. discuss potential simplifications in context thermodynamics using

متن کاملThe Turbulent Magnetohydrodynamic Cascade: Applications of Third-Moment Theory to the Solar Wind at 1 AU
Velocity and magnetic field fluctuations in the solar wind show evidence that non-linear turbulent dynamics are present in the interplanetary medium. The cascade of energy created by these turbulent processes may provide a mechanism for in situ heating of the solar wind plasma. We perform three studies analyzing the turbulent energy cascade at 1AU using 10 years of data from the Advanced Compos...
متن کاملAngular Distribution of Solar Wind Magnetic Field Vector at 1 Au
We study the angular distribution of the solar wind magnetic field vector at 1 AU and its solar cycle dependence using ACEobservations. A total of twelve27.27 day(the duration of a solar rotation) intervals during the solar maximum, the solar minimum, as well as the ascending and descending phases of solar cycle 23 are examined. For all selected intervals, we obtain the angular distribution ...
متن کاملSolar wind turbulence and shear: A superposed‐epoch analysis of corotating interaction regions at 1 AU
[1] A superposed‐epoch analysis of ACE and OMNI2 measurements is performed on 27 corotating interaction regions (CIRs) in 2003–2008, with the zero epoch taken to be the stream interface as determined by the maximum of the plasma vorticity. When the measurements are rotated into the local‐Parker‐spiral coordinate system, the shear is seen to be abrupt. Converging flows are seen; about half of th...
متن کاملKinetic Models of Solar Wind Electrons, Protons and Heavy Ions
In the present chapter, we describe the recent results obtained in the development of solar wind models using the kinetic approach. We show how the solution of the evolution equation is used to determine the velocity distribution function (VDF) of the solar wind particles and their moments. The solutions depend on the approximations and assumptions made in the development of the models. We desc...
